FoodIngredientsFirst spoke to Darrel Webber, CEO of the RSPO about the sourcing of sustainable palm oil, the targets that have been set and the big data innovations that are being adopted in order to guarantee traceability.

In 2004, WWF helped set up the RSPO to include every link in the palm oil supply chain, to develop international standards for responsible palm oil production.

RSPO's outgoing CEO Datuk Darrel Webber says that most of its members are compliant in sustainable planting practices but the government needs to look into factors beyond control of plantation companies to fight the haze problem. This also dovetails into the imminent dangers of climate change which need inter-governmental action.
